After a brief summer visit to California in 2003 it was clear to Cyndi Collett and Chris Tait that Nashville, their home city, could use a little more style. Chic home decor shops could be found easily enough in L.A. and the Napa Valley, but they were few and far between in middle Tennessee. The couple came up with a solution: they would open a store of their own. In a matter of months, the pair quit their corporate jobs and opened their dream-a modern lifestyle store-to the Nashville public. Armed with Collett's eye for elegance and Tait's consideration for practical items, Mad Mod has filled its shelves with unique merchandise from over one hundred suppliers. The shop offers something for everyone: homeowners seeking sophisticated art, students searching for affordable oddities, and anyone looking for memorable gifts and modern home furnishings. Currently located in the historic Belmont-Hillsboro area, Collett and Tait have found the perfect community to settle into and serve. Mad Mod's position across the street from Belmont University places the store on a favorite block for Nashville's most creative hipsters and trendsetters. The store carries popular products from Blu Dot, Pablo Designs, Chilewich and MoMA, quality work from local artists and clothiers, and even offers its own line of ultra-soft bamboo textiles. Besides satisfying fashion and home needs, Collett and Tait are always seeking to initiate and contribute to community outreach events with surrounding businesses and nonprofit organizations. Simple events to encourage a close, caring neighborhood are usually either in the works or on the not-so-distant horizon.
