Carrick Concepts
Sillites are the brainchild of Rick and Carolyn Gesue. Rick Gesue spent 33 years as an engineer with Texas Instruments, retiring early in 1996. His plan was to expand his volunteer work as the Voice of Special Olympics Maryland and help Carolyn remodel an older home in Monkton, Maryland.
Carolyn's desire to have electric candles in all windows, with no visible wires or cords, began an exciting journey that started when Rick installed single receptacles in a few windowsills. The next step in the journey was Ohio, where Rick and his retired contractor father created the first Sillite from plumbing and electrical parts (and epoxy!).
As numerous people in the building trade and other visitors toured the home with installed Sillites, the response was positive and exciting. An improved model Sillite submitted to Underwriters Laboratories met with similar encouragement (and later full UL listing in the US and Canada).
Since beginning production of Sillites in late 2001, Rick has discovered hundreds of homeowners who love candles and hate the cords.
Moreover, there is a growing trend of homeowners putting electric candles in all windows, not for just a season, but year-round, offering a sign of welcome, warmth, friendship and patriotism.
A portion of the sale of each Sillite goes to Illuminations, a non-profit organization dedicated to the awareness, understanding and treatment of child sexual abuse.
